The type of equipment used for cutting metal, concrete, brick, stone - cutting discs. With all their advantages, they are not durable, so you should not purchase them with a margin, but immediately before use.

Using and applying circles

Cutting, grinding and grinding discs are widely used in the processing of various materials on angle grinders of various sizes and stationary machines.

  1. Cutting - used for cutting metal, stone and building materials.
  2. Grinding - used to treat surfaces to the desired cleanliness, and using grinding discs, surface defects of parts and welds, in particular, metal spatter, are removed.

When choosing cutting wheels, it should be borne in mind that their effective use can be achieved only with the correct selection of tools for a particular operation. In the manufacture of these elements, various abrasive and bonding materials are used to obtain different properties and determine the purpose of the disc. For example, cut-off wheels contain larger abrasive particles and a much softer composition than grinding wheels, which allows faster material removal at the point of cut by generating new, sharper particles and increasing cutting speed. A harder bond and a smaller particle size provide a gradual finish and a higher surface quality, which makes it possible to better withstand surface loads and is used for grinding. At the same time, aluminum oxide is used as an abrasive head for steels and alloys, and silicon carbide for cast iron and non-ferrous metals.

Marking and material for making cut-off wheels

To facilitate the selection of the tool, the marks on the surface of the product indicate:

  • Abrasive grade: "25A" - white corundum, "14A" - normal electrocorundum;
  • Dimensions in mm: outer and inner diameter and thickness;
  • Purpose and material for which it is intended, for example: "cut-off", "steel";
  • Bundle type: "BF" means bakelite bundle;
  • Permissible rotation speed, for example 80 m / s - optimal and maximum in value;
  • Maximum number of revolutions per minute;
  • A hardness grade such as “K” means that the disc material is moderately soft.
  • Dimensions - outer and landing diameter (22.23mm);
  • Expiry date or production date (on steel inner ring);
  • Safety requirements.

An important feature: no scorch is allowed for stainless steel. When overheated, alloying additives burn out and stainless steel turns into ordinary steel, and a corrosion process can begin at the cut site. It is important to consider this when choosing a cut-off wheel and carefully read the information on the packaging.

Bundles of abrasive wheels

Various types of binders can be used in discs: metal, ceramic, vulcanite and bakelite materials. For the production of cutting and grinding wheels, a bakelite bond is used. It is a mixture of resins with different properties responsible for strength, flexibility and elasticity, which is especially important for thin cut-off wheels.

In addition to the abrasive itself and bakelite binder, the rim includes fillers for various purposes. Each manufacturer has a different composition of fillers and, of course, is kept in strict secrecy.

Another important element of which the cut-off wheels are composed is the fiberglass mesh. Gives the necessary strength: without reinforcement with nets, the element will inevitably scatter into the smallest particles. The mesh also prevents side load breakage, which is inevitable when working with angle grinders. Cutting discs have at least two links, and stripping discs have three.

The thicker the mesh, the stronger the element. However, the thickness of the mesh reduces the amount of abrasive and therefore the efficiency of the tool decreases. The manufacturer is forced to look for the optimal ratio of thickness and hardness to ensure sufficient performance and strength.

How to choose cut-off wheels?

When choosing a disc, you need to answer three basic questions.

  • What kind of material will you cut?
  • What is your Bulgarian?
  • Experience with cutting tools.

Often when buying, we are faced with a choice: monetary benefit or product quality. The market offers a large selection of products in various price categories. But this is just an illusion of real choice. Professionals use such a concept as the cost of one cut. The indisputable advantage of expensive discs is their reliability, which is important when working with a grinder. Artdeko® recommends making a balanced choice and not forgetting about your own safety when working with cutting tools and tools.
